An expedition with no vertigo
When the Englishman Edward Whymper made his first ascent of the Matterhorn (4,478 m) in 1865, he showed that even the biggest challenges can be overcome in the mountain environment. And for Zermatt this marked the start of its rise to become a world-famous tourist resort.
